Capcom pulls Onimusha: Way of the Sword forward to September 4

Capcom is doing the rare thing: shipping earlier. Onimusha: Way of the Sword moves from September 25 to September 4, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store). The company says it wants to “bring this game to you sooner” after strong demo feedback.

Late September was a knife fight. Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant both land around September 24; GTA 6’s marketing gravity bends the whole quarter. Pulling Onimusha to September 4 still puts it near Dawnwalker and other early-September releases, but it is a cleaner lane than sitting under Konami and Remedy — or under Rockstar’s shadow.
Pre-order digital bonuses convert to an Early Adopter window that still runs through late September timestamps by region. Demo save data will grant a full-game bonus; Capcom promises a demo update without new content before launch.
The game, briefly
Miyamoto Musashi, one katana, Edo Kyoto twisted by Malice, Genma from the underworld. Director Satoru Nihei has talked about expressing a full combat vocabulary with a single blade — parries and deflects tuned per enemy — rather than the old multi-weapon kit. After two decades away, Onimusha’s comeback now has a date that looks intentional rather than hopeful.
Capcom IR notice: Onimusha release date moved up to September 4.
