Netflix: ~300 titles used generative AI — cloud games up 11x

Netflix put hard numbers on AI and gaming in its Q2 2026 results. Revenue hit about $12.6 billion (+13% year over year). Roughly 300 titles used generative AI across concept, pre-vis, post, and delivery — with the heaviest concentration in post for crowds, battles, and establishing shots.
Co-CEO Ted Sarandos cited 17 minutes of AI-enhanced footage in The American Experiment produced “twice as fast and at half the cost,” plus examples like India’s Glory and Brazil’s Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri. Netflix also disclosed it paid about $587 million for Ben Affleck’s InterPositive AI startup, whose tools keep filmmakers in the loop using production dailies for relighting and VFX-style work.
Cloud games: 11x since October
Co-CEO Greg Peters said monthly active use of cloud TV games has grown elevenfold since Netflix scaled the initiative in October 2025 — faster than the old mobile-games ramp, with stronger retention. June’s FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition and Unhinged were the two strongest cloud debuts; Netflix Playground (kids) saw 3x daily players since April, helping kids mobile engagement jump ~600% year over year.
Ads remain a growth engine — Netflix still targets roughly doubling ad revenue toward $3 billion in 2026. A free streaming tier stays under consideration with “no near-term plans.” Sarandos’ line on AI: movies are still made by people who make movies — the tools are there to expand what those people can ship.
