Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 world-premieres at Anime Expo — Netflix fall debut locked

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is no longer a logo and a promise. At Anime Expo 2026, CD PROJEKT RED and Studio TRIGGER world-premiered episode one at Crypto.com Arena for roughly 6,000 fans — then publicly thanked the crowd for not leaking a frame. The 10-episode season hits Netflix this fall.

“Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor described the sequel as the start of a new D&D campaign in Night City — a fresh cast, harsher perspective, less romance about the edgerunner life.”

Standalone Night City, new scars

This is not David and Lucy’s epilogue. New characters — including Talia Yang and Roman Carax in early casting reveals — carry a story Sztybor frames as uglier and shorter-lived than the first season’s tragic glamour. Director Kai Ikarashi (TRIGGER) joins CDPR’s Saya Elder and Sztybor on the creative front line; Danny Motta hosted the AX panel.

The musical flex is already meme fuel: opening on The Cure’s “10:15 Saturday Night,” an ending theme by Watson, and an exclusive Rico Nasty track, “YOU CAN’T RUN FROM ME.” Pair that with TRIGGER’s kinetic, retro-forward animation notes from attendees, and Edgerunners 2 is positioned as both prestige anime and Cyberpunk 2077’s second cultural aftershock.

Why gamers should care

The first Edgerunners season did what patches alone could not: it made Night City feel mythic again. A standalone sequel that refuses soft nostalgia is the right risk — especially if Netflix times the drop beside ongoing 2077 / Orion pipeline news. Until fall, the scarcity is the marketing: 6,000 witnesses, zero leaks, maximum hunger.
